Testimony from a Workshop Grad

Merry Christmas!

…While I am not yet rooted in a job [as a counselor], and am looking forward to some traveling in Central America this winter, I have been able to share the exchanged life wheel and line diagrams with five people. I was able to share an overview of it with a friend whom I visited in Nashville on the way home from the conference.

Also, in the past month God has been doing some incredible things with four of my co-workers at the group home and has illuminated some truths about who He is and the truth of the gospel to them. I have led three of them in a group of the wheel diagrams (and assigned some reading for them 🙂 I have gone over the wheel and line individually with one of the ladies from the group and also one of the ladies who works at a sister home closer to the Twin Cities [MN]. The executive director (of the group home) is also interested in what is happening and wants to be a part of the group the next time that we meet up.

It has been fun to see the Spirit work in the lives of these people and to have the opportunity to direct, encourage, question, share, and pray with them. The fact that I’m not working has allowed plenty of time to sit and talk with them about the truth of who they are in Christ!

Personally, I see how this model fits much better with my gifts then the traditional counseling I had been doing. It has given me more enthusiasm for starting to counsel again as well. As I say that I am still planning to spend a few months traveling, although instead of the control that I would usually seek, I am trying to keep it very open and allow the Lord who lives through me to surprise me and grow me through the experience. At this point I do believe that I will go to Idaho in the summer and start a practice there–unless the Lord gives me some other direction between then and now…

Hope that all is well with yourself during the Christmas season!

Blessings,
P.B.

Thanks for the Diagrams

My name is Don Livermore, formerly a Christ Centered counselor at His Life Ministries in Springfield, MO where we used the Wheel & Line diagrams as our primary tool in the counseling process. I still use these diagrams from time to time in helping those God sends my way through our local church body. I also do a little bit of teaching in our Identity In Christ ministry at our church.

I’ve lost track of just when I began using the diagrams but somewhere between 20 and 25 years ago I’d guess. It is what God used to show me why no matter how hard I tried….I just could not live out the Christ Life….in that small quiet voice God gave me some great advice….as in…..”Don, if you ever hope to achieve your goal of living the Christ Life you need to let the only Person to ever have lived that life….live it out THROUGH you”….Since that day so many many years back…I’ve never turned away from that advice.

Dr. Solomon, thank you for these diagrams.

Champions Arise

Champions

GFI alumnus and associate, Edmund Spieker, is leading a TransWorld Radio initiative aimed at men called Champions Arise.

Champions Arise was born as a prayerful answer to a question from an African brother in Mozambique. Aware of the worldwide plight of women and TWR’s ministry through Project Hannah, he asked the challenging question, “Why doesn’t TWR have programs for men? We men need so much help!”

We agree! The need for men to take on their spiritual leadership role in the church is a crisis of tremendous proportion. There is a great need for mentoring, encouragement and discipling of men.

Champions Arise is a TWR initiative unique in its development and administration. CA differs from the typical TWR cooperating broadcaster model. With an emphasis on relationship and spiritual calling, TWR not only serves as a distributor of content, but as the initiator of a ministry built on prayer, and as provider of program content, partnerships and coordination…

We hope to provide a series of transcripts for this radio broadcast on the theme of the Exchanged Life. For more information, visit the web site: http://championsarise.org

Testimony from Mexico

Spanish edition of Handbook to Happiness

Spanish edition of Handbook to Happiness

I am in Mexico teaching in the Word of Life Bible Institute for three weeks. The Lord ordained an encounter with a young man that asked to meet with me privately. He is currently preparing to enter the pastorate and his desire is to serve in a country that is a spiritually dark place. In our first conversation I learned that he was discouraged, suffering defeat in his walk with the Lord, and questioning whether God would use him in the ministry. He was at the point of giving up on his dreams. The Lord used His word to restore this young man´s heart in an amazing way. I shared the basic truths of the exchanged life using the wheel and line diagrams; of course I am using the Spanish Language version.
We discussed the meanings of the truths represented in those drawings, read the Bible passages and prayed together. First he was broken when he saw his life experience reflected in the wheel. He recognized that in his own strength he would never accomplish the dreams God placed in his heart. But his eyes were opened to understand that God´s design for his life is an exchanged life. He has a new identity, Christ living in him. I believe he really got Gal. 2:20! Christ is his life!
In a follow-up meeting he said that life looks different now and he has a fresh understanding of 2 Cor. 2:17; “old things are passed away and all things are being made new”. I later learned that when we first met it was his birthday! What a birthday present the Lord gave him! He now has had a white funeral, a death certificate and a proclamation of his new identity.
Well, I suppose you can guess as to what is happening now.  This guy is beaming with joy. One by one guys that want to talk privately are looking for me between classes, after classes, at night … looks as though my days are going to be full until I leave for home on Dec 5.
I hope you will pray for me as the Lord brings me to your thoughts. God is doing great things!

IN CHRIST,
Jim H.

Testimony of Renee

My Personal Testimony

Renee and Robert with John and Chuck @ 11/2014 Workshop

I have been struggling in my walk with God for many years. Every time I would try to go forward in my Christian walk, I felt greatly hindered in a myriad of ways. Finally I got so frustrated I asked God what the problem was. I told God, “I am doing all I know to do; I am going to church, praying, seeking You and Your word – surrendering my life to You to the best of my ability…What is missing?”

The Lord answered me in His still, small voice: “The cross.” Well… being a Christian, I thought I already knew about the cross, but I recognize the Holy Spirit’s voice, so I started searching for answers. I began studying the Scriptures and searching the internet for ministries which specialized on the cross. I came across GFI and felt I had found a ministry which seemed to have covered the message of the cross much more thoroughly than anything else I had ever seen.

To make a long story as short as I can, my husband and I went there. (He came reluctantly). I knew from reading Dr. Solomon’s books and talking to him, that we were going there to enter into a complete surrender to God. I asked God what He wanted me to surrender first and He said, “your marriage.” I thought I had a pretty good marriage so I was a little shocked. I told my husband about it, and although I was going for four days of counseling, we decided to surrender our marriage to the Lord.

Well, after the four days of counseling with Dr. Solomon at GFI, the Lord began a total transformation of our marriage. Hidden things which had been there for a long time began to surface and the Lord cleaned us up–all by a sovereign supernatural work of God. Our marriage was completely made over and I received a “new husband” who actually loves God as much (or maybe more) than me–since God did a thorough “house cleaning” so to speak.

Yet, because I knew I still was not fully surrendering to the Lord, I was frustrated. Dr. Solomon said, “You are trying to do what God has already done.” I began to understand that salvation is by faith and so is sanctification! So I began to “let go and let God”.

Before I knew it, things got worse, not better as I came to the end of myself. I had a lot of fear and began having panic attacks and couldn’t eat or sleep for almost four weeks. It was horrible. My husband and I began seeking God like we had never sought him. I called Dr. Solomon and asked him to pray. Then the Lord showed us that my problem with panic attacks and not being able to eat or sleep was actually “spiritual warfare”. God led us to take authority over the spirit of fear and hindering spirits and tell them to leave in the name and authority of Jesus. We did this and I began to get better. I began living a normal life and could eat and sleep again.

I was still having panic attacks, though, and kept calling Dr. Solomon for prayer and assistance. He asked me if I had fellowship with other believers who understood the power of the cross. I told him I had fellowship, but mostly on the phone…and the people I knew didn’t really understand the cross like I was beginning to understand it. He said, “Well, you need real fellowship, not just over the phone. And from people who have a vital relationship to the Lord.” So Dr. Solomon found someone in Little Rock, near me, who had worked with him in ministry at one time. So, I met this person and he introduced me to some women in my neighborhood who were wholeheartedly seeking the Lord! Through their fellowship with me and their love I got healed of a lot of emotional wounds. Also, I no longer have panic attacks. Praise the Lord!

Just recently we went back to GFI at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to learn how to better articulate this fuller message of the cross…that Christ not only died for our sins, but we also died with Him and are resurrected to new life! (Rom. 6:3-6; Eph. 2:4-7). Our lives are totally a work of grace from start to finish! I learned that the riches of Christ (through the finished work of the cross) are in our spiritual “bank account” already. We just have to “cash it” by faith, surrendering our lives and identifying with the fact that we are in Christ, not Adam anymore. It is no longer I, but Christ living in me that lives the Christian life!

I found out that even though I surrendered to God by faith in Christ’s finished work, He is still working in me for daily surrender. (It is He who does it, not I. Knowing this now, I have such peace!) He works in our will and gives us the ability through Christ. The cross is a daily thing (Luke 9:23).

As I have learned to yield to Christ in faith–believing what He said is true–I finally have entered into a more complete “soul rest”. After about four years I must still count this true and deny myself (say no to my will) in order to let the Lord live his life through me daily.

But Christ started this amazing work when I went to the Grace Fellowship International office four years ago and signed my “death certificate” to the old life. (Dr. Solomon actually makes us sign our own death certificate!) When I admitted that I could not live the Christian life, that only Christ in me is able to do that, I prayed the “Selfer’s Prayer”.

Now my life almost seems to be too easy. Truly His yoke (Christ’s way) is easy and his burden is light! (Matt. 11:28-30). I have found that Christ is not a hard task master. He is a gentle, kind servant-leader who, like a shepherd, gently leads His people. He takes us by the hand and leads us to full deliverance (salvation). Our salvation is a person, not a method or set of rules. Full salvation is through the Lord Jesus!

Exchanged Life Ministries of Greater Philadelphia

On October 12 I paid a visit to Exchanged Life Ministries of Greater Philadelphia in Perkasie, PA. It brought back memories of when I lived down the road a few miles while attending Biblical Theological Seminary (1978-81). Robyn Henning leads this ministry by providing Exchanged Life Counseling to people in the area (and some by e-counsel). Robyn and a friend also visited Americas Keswick last week and it was good to fellowship with her as one of the GFI alumni from years ago. Pray for her ministry to grow and continue to bear fruit. – John W.

Amanda testifies at Florida Conference

Amanda attended the GFI Conference, Workshop and Solomon Lecture Series as the practicum requirement for her Luther Rice University degree in Biblical Counseling. She attended this conference as a refresher. Amanda will be going as a short term missionary to Bolivia where she will offer Christian counseling to university students with El Alfarero (“The Potter”).

Alumni Head to Spain

Bob and Joan Galasso attended the GFI training week in Tennessee a number of years ago.

They have found that their most important relationship is a living and growing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Bob and Joan spent their first four years of ministry in Youth For Christ followed by twenty-four years in pastoral ministry with The Christian and Missionary Alliance before starting Alive In Christ Ministries, Inc. in 2002. They desire to share God’s love through evangelism, leadership development, and coming alongside Christian workers providing a safe place for God to heal, equip and restore His servants.

One of their popular presentations is titled, “Have You Died Lately?” (based on Luke 9:23 and Galatians 2:20).

This month they write:

We rejoice in the Lord and we share with you our praises: God has brought healing to hearts and souls with His hope and love! He continues to shine Light into people’s lives, revealing Truth and dispelling lies! He is the Way, the Truth and the Light! We ask that you cover us in prayer for our Pastoral Care Ministry in Spain during September 24 – October 13.Our theme for the retreat (Oct. 2-4) is “Come To The Waters.” Pray for hearts to be refreshed and God will bless each one with His Presence!

Counselor’s Testimony

A GFI trainee just shared this news of God’s blessing on the new biblical counseling ministry at the local church. [Identifying information deleted for anonymity]

Thank you so much for responding so quickly when I reached out to you [for mentoring]… I appreciate your sending such a comprehensive list of follow-up materials – just what I was looking for, and a good reminder of where to find what I should have realized I already had!

My first counselees at _____ Church: a couple in their ___’s considering marriage – she, a long-time Christian, but held down by past trauma, memories, regrets, doubts; he, a product of a strong [nominal religious] family, thinking he had a relationship with God, but not knowing the only way to truly have that relationship was through the work of Jesus Christ.  Long story short…beginning with the Wheel and Line, and eventually taking her through Neil Anderson’s Steps to Freedom…she wanted to be baptized again to celebrate her new-found freedom, and he made the decision to follow Christ. Both were baptized recently and are moving forward with wedding plans – now equally yoked!

What an awesome experience, and what a blessing God allowed me to have, witnessing the work of the Holy Spirit in each of their lives in such individual ways.  Truly an encouraging, exhilarating experience!

Eternal Life Support Group

Back in the year 2000 R.N., Gina, sensed God calling her to care not only for her patients’ physical needs, but also their emotional and spiritual needs as well. On her new web site she recalls,

Gina_H“Over the next decade,  I struggled trying to determine what it was I was to do with this call. Often times asking Him to take it back as it had become such a burden.  Feeling so ill-equipped, desperate to know His will, yet too stubborn to surrender to it.  Sometimes the truth is difficult to accept, but I knew that though as a child I had accepted Christ as my Savior , I still had not allowed Him to become my Lord… I began to diligently pray and ask God how was I to do that which He had called me to do, “for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find” (Romans 8:18).

“During this time of searching, a friend who is a retired nurse and a missionary,  suggested I contact  Grace Fellowship International in Pigeon Forge  where they teach the Exchanged Life model (Gal. 2:20). I attended a conference and the teachings I received there confirmed the insights God had given me through the reading of His Word.  I continued to study and completed the required classes to become certified and enrolled in the  diploma program in Biblical Counseling.  From this journey of trials and triumphs, Eternal Life Support Group came to be.  ELSG was registered as a non profit in Tennessee in January of 2014 and has applied for 501c3 status.  The Eternal Life Support Group is not about ‘religion’, it is about relationships and allowing the presence of God in me and others associated with ELSG to minister to the holistic needs of people; for we are admonished to neither judge nor condemn but we have been commanded to love…”

Let’s pray for God’s blessing on this new venture. Read more about Gina’s testimony and ministry at http://www.eternallifesupportgroup.org
